Headaches are the worst! There’s nothing that shuts down a productive day faster than an ear-splitting migraine that you just cannot get rid of. But if you’re dedicated to living a more natural life, there are a few ways to get rid of headaches without pills. And though these remedies might not work for everyone, why not try them out? Here are my favorite ways to get rid of headaches naturally!
Get Rid Of Headaches: Pressure Points
Pressure points in your body are said to be extra sensitive and if pressed in exactly the right way, they can offer relief. Some of the most commonly known pressure points are the temples of the head and the soles of the feet. There’s even one on the bridge of your hand between your thumb and index finger.
If you have a headache, I recommend first pressing the area of your hand between your thumb and index finger. Hold firmly for 10 seconds. Next, repeat on either side. Repeat the process on both hands four times.
Another great pressure point to target is in your shoulders. Located just at the edge of your shoulder, halfway between your shoulder and the base of your neck, there is a pressure point. And oftentimes, this area of the body is one of the first to tense up when dealing with a headache. Use your hand to apply firm pressure in circles to the area for one minute at a time. Repeat the process on your other shoulder and repeat until you feel relief.
There are more than just two pressure points that will give you some relief from a bad headache, but my fingers would grow tired writing about each one of them! Here is a link with some more information about how to get rid of headaches with pressure points.
Get Rid Of Headaches: Essential Oils
Though essential oils haven’t been scientifically proven to provide any kind of headache relief, I know from personal experience that they do work. If you’re dealing with a headache caused by stress or anxiety, drop a few drops of lavender into your hands and breathe deeply. Lavender is said to help headaches associated with feelings of stress.
Peppermint is also a great way to get rid of headaches with essential oils. It’s actually been used for pain relief for thousands of years! Apply a drop of peppermint oil (diluted with some kind of carrier) to your temples or the back of your neck to help with pain relief.
Eucalyptus oil is great for relieving respiratory distress, but it’s also good at relieving some of the pain associated with headaches. Especially if the headache is a result of a stuffy nose! to treat, drop a few drops of eucalyptus oil into the bottom of a steamy shower. Hop in and breathe deeply. You’ll feel relief in no time at all.
