I’ve never been one for big romantic gestures on Valentine’s Day. I like to make sure those in my life know that they’re loved, of course, but big gestures can seem a little over-the-top for me sometimes. It’s for that reason that my husband and I have a no-grand-gesture rule this year for Valentine’s Day. We are still planning on making the day special, but we will do so from the comfort of our own den watching a romantic movie. There’s really nothing wrong with staying in this year and we can’t wait to test it out with plenty of tasty snacks! Here are a few romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s day this year!
Romantic Movies To Watch On Valentine’s Day
The Notebook
It would be a travesty if this film weren’t included on the list. This classic romance stars young Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and follows them as they conquer love–and all that comes with it. I’m guilty of crying every time I see this movie.
Dirty Dancing
I don’t even need to tell you who stars in this cultural masterpiece. Though some might call it cheesy, this movie is everything we ever needed in a guilty pleasure. Now, if I could just convince my husband to sit and watch this one with me!
La La Land
Released just a few years ago, watching this award-winning musical is just the thing needed to complete your day of love. What could be a better way to celebrate the day than watching an actor and a pianist fall madly in love in Los Angeles? There’s a lot of Ryan Gosling on this list, and I’m so about that.
500 Days of Summer
500 Days of Summer is one of my favorite films! I love Zooey Deschanel’s feelings toward love because that was so like me at a younger age! There’s something about 500 Days of Summer that is just so relatable and true-to-life.
Sixteen Candles
My Mom gave me this movie on Valentine’s Day when I was fifteen years old, and I have made it a point to watch every year since. Plus, who doesn’t like to see a little Jake Ryan?
Pretty Woman
Another classic I couldn’t help but mention! Pretty Woman is essentially what put Julia Roberts on the Pretty Woman map as the film followed her unlikely affair with a wealthy businessman. I mean, who wouldn’t fall hard for Julia Roberts?
Say Anything
As far as I’m concerned, you’re never too old for Say Anything. It’s pretty much the perfect romance–high school or not–see if you can convince your husband to reenact the speaker scene once watched!
