You may have noticed that many retailers carry pine cones among their holiday decor and sell them for $3-$5 a piece! We don’t know about you, but our kids seem to haul these things into the house daily. Hang on to those pine cones you usually chuck back outside because we’re going to tell you how to turn them into holiday scented center pieces!

In case you live in a land of deciduous trees, and no pine, you can always find bags of pine cones at the craft store. Clip your coupon for Michaels or Joannes and you can get a bag at 50% off.
Gather Your Crafting Tools
- Gallon sized zip lock bags
- Spray bottle
- Dry pine conesÂ
- ½ cup water
- Preferred essential oils
- Optional – for a holiday scent, use cinnamon and clove.
Pine cones from the great outdoors are sure to carry bugs and dirt. Rinse them well with hot water. Then place them on a cookie sheet and bake at 250(F) degrees for one hour. Flip them over every 15 minutes. This will kill any bugs, get rid of sap, and dry the pine cones.
Prepare Your Scented Spray
In a spray bottle, combine ½ cup of water with 15-20 drops of scented oils. If using cinnamon and clove, combine 10 drops of each into the spray bottle.
Place pine cones into a gallon sized bag, lining the bottom of the bag. Spray with scented water from spray bottle. Add another layer of pine cones and spray again. Continue filling the bag, layer by layer, and spraying each layer with your scented spray bottle. Then close the bag.
Seal the bag shut and let pine cones absorb your scented oils for a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 2 weeks.
After 1-2 weeks, take your pine cones out of the plastic bag. Place them in your desired dish or bowl to display in your home.
Optional – you can add other items to your displayed pine cones like pumpkins, acorns, pine, and other fall elements.
