Either way, having a color scheme is the best way to ensure your photos come out picture perfect. When it comes to color scheme, you’ve got to consider your location. If you plan on hitting the beach at all this summer, then a family picture is a must. Informal or formal, the sand, surf, and sun make for perfect portraits. It will allow the sand and surf to be accessories rather than overwhelming the photo. If you’re location is bursting with flowers and bright colors, then a neutral color scheme is a must. Stick to cream, beige, olive, and grey. This will let your background put the focus on you and your family’s cute smiles rather than overwhelming the picture. For little kids, I really love Finn and Emma because of their fabulous neutral palette. When it comes to fabrics, you can do everything from cotton to tulle! Feel free to really mix and match what’s comfortable.
Sure black is slimming when it comes to photos, but navy is a better choice for outdoor summer pictures. Navy is slimming an also draws the viewers eye where you want it. Try pairing the navy with pops of white or cream. Incorporating stripes is also a great way to break up the monotony of the photo. Because navy can be a little heavy, try keeping the fabrics light. Cotton, linen, and blends all work well to lighten up the darkness of the navy. Plus if you’re aiming for something summery, a light fabric will help keep things in season.

Again, work on balancing out the fabrics here. Yellow in polyester blends tends to be really vibrant, and you want to avoid that in photos. Opt for airy fabrics like linen, organza, tulle, and cotton to keep things in the right tones.
