5 Reasons Dr. Seuss Should Be On The Loose In A People House

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss with my grandmother. In fact, Dr. Seuss’ birthday is a mere day after mine, so I loved when my school would throw the yearly Read-Athons in his honor. Though, for a bit, I wanted to believe they were celebrating me. Either way, it was an excuse to read and I absolutely loved it. If you don’t have Dr. Seuss collection in your home already, here are five reasons why you should add it to your home library.

5 Reasons To Have Dr. Seuss In Your Home

His Writing Style Helps Babies Learn
Do you know that rhythmic prose Dr. Suess has become known for? Well, did you know that his rhythmic style of writing is proven to help babies to learn when phrases begin or end? It’s true, and this is often the first step when learning a first language for wee ones.
He Teaches Important Life Lessons
It doesn’t matter which Dr. Suess book you pick up on any given evening, there’s a life lesson to be learned by the end of it. Take the Lorax for example, this is the perfect book to read (especially now) to teach children of the importance of caring for our Earth. Alternatively, the Cat In The Hat could teach kids to be nice when the babysitter comes over. 😉

Wonderful For Children Of All Ages
Just because his writing style helps babies learn fundamental aspects of language, but his books aren’t only for babies!  Because of their classic appeal, Dr. Suess books are a great fit for kids of any age or grade level. In fact, I had a friend that was given a Dr. Suess book as a graduation present. At the very least, it’ll make them nostalgic for their childhood!
His Language Mirrors The Way Kids Speak
The made-up words throughout Dr. Suess’ books actually mirror the way young kids speak in conversation with one another. It’s been scientifically proven that these made-up words will help encourage younger kids to take an interest in vocabulary. I’m all about vocabulary expansion and reading Dr. Suess books is a great way to get that started in young kids.
Helps Reluctant (Or Struggling Readers)
Do you have a reluctant reader, or one struggling to turn the next page? Never fear, Dr. Suess is here! From the straightforward, easy to read pose, and the pages and pages of wacky illustrations, Dr. Suess will help appeal to kids who are uninterested in reading otherwise. Really, my Aunt is a teacher and she says it works wonders!
