Homemade Toothache Remedies For The Worst Pain

Homemade Toothache Remedies For The Worst Pain

Anyone who has had a toothache knows you would do almost anything to get rid of it. There is something that can help. Until you can see a dentist, try these homemade toothache remedies that really work.

Toothaches are the worst! Just a few weeks ago, one of my kiddos was reduced to tears because of a problem with his tooth. We got him into the dentist just as soon as we could, but it broke my heart to see him in such pain, unable to offer any help. Then, just the other day, my eldest daughter was also complaining of tooth pain! Fortunately, by this point, I was an expert on the matter and I could use a few of the home remedies I learned on my son to help my daughter with her tooth pain. Say goodbye to over the counter medication, we were able to reduce her tooth pain with things we had around the house, until, of course, we could get her into the dentist.

Homemade Toothache Remedies

Rinse With Saltwater

Rinsing with salt water is a great way to disinfect your mouth without harmful chemicals. Salt is a natural disinfectant, and the particles may help loosen any food stuck between your teeth, reducing pain. For best results, begin rinsing with salt water just as soon as you begin to feel pain. Rinse twice per day.

Rinse With Hydrogen Peroxide

For stronger cases of tooth pain, I recommend trying to rinse with a mouthful of hydrogen peroxide. Not only with the peroxide kill the bacteria causing the pain, but it can be used to prevent plaque build up in your mouth. Mix three parts peroxide with three parts water for best results. Rinse twice per day.

A Bag Of Peas

While this is the oldest trick in the book for dealing with tooth pain, I felt it deserved a mention because it works. While not as effective at reducing pain as some of these other tips and tricks, placing an ice pack on your sore teeth is sure to help lessen inflammation and swelling.

Peppermint Tea Bags

Brew and steep two peppermint tea bags, allowing the bag itself to cool down before placing it directly on the area of the mouth that is affected. Peppermint is known to numb mouth pain and soothe sensitive gums until you can get in to see a dentist.

Garlic

Okay, so this idea WON’T make your breath smell nice, but it is effective! To help with toothaches, crush a clove of garlic into a paste and then apply it directly onto the affected area. Add a bit of salt for added antiseptic properties.

Clove or Thyme Essential Oil

Clove and thyme essential oils have been used to treat pain for centuries. To use, drop a few drops of clove or thyme essential oil onto a cotton ball with a few drops of carrier oil. Place the cotton ball directly onto the area of your mouth that is affected. Apply often throughout the day. One of the easiest and quickest homemade toothache remedies

Vanilla Extract

Yep, you read that right. Vanilla can be used to treat toothaches! Vanilla extract contains alcohol, which helps to numb pain and tons of antioxidants to help rid the area of disease. To use vanilla, dab a few drops onto your finger and rub it into the area twice per day.
