Potpourri Recipes For Fall
Fall is my favorite season. I’ve found a way to capture the scents of the outdoors and bring it inside with these DIY potpourri recipes for fall.
1. My Favorite Potpourri Recipe
1 apple cut in fourths
1 lemon cut in fourths
2 or 3 cinnamon sticks
1 orange cut in fourths
Water to cover
Place in a pan and simmer.
2. Winter Potpourri
1 cara cara orange (or blood orange)
1 valencia or navel orange
1-2 vanilla bean pods
3-5 cinnamon sticks
4-5 cups of apple cider
1 small branch of fresh pine
Pour apple cider into pot, add cinnamon sticks and sprigs of pine. Open vanilla bean pod (lengthwise) and place in pot. Cut citrus into half inch slices and place in pot. Reach a gentle boil then simmer for several hours. Next, add water or apple cider when liquid evaporates.
3. Simmering Potpourri Bricks
2 tbsp. applesauce
1 oz. of pumpkin pie ground spice
1 oz. of apple pie ground spice
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Dough should be stiff but not dry. Section off dough into small portions; gently shape each portion into 1 1/2 inch rectangles. Place the “Brick” onto a cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough (this recipe makes approximately 10 “bricks”). Bake. Preheat oven to 275 degrees and bake for 1 1/2 hours until dry and firm. Cool. Use as a simmering potpourri by simply dropping in boiling water.
