Do you have a bunch of old newspaper just laying around your house? Here are some amazing ideas on how to reuse old newspapers in your home!
How To Reuse Old Newspapers
1. Give Rid Of Musty Smells
Musty smells aren’t fun. You’ll notice them in a book store, thrift stores, and probably your grandparents house. If you bring something home from one of these places and can’t seem to shake the odor, stick it in a paper back full of crumpled up newspaper and leave it for week. The newspaper will eat up all the odors.
2. Use It For Packing Breakables
If you know a move is coming up, start storing up newspaper. Then when it comes time to put breakable items in a box, you can first wrap them in newspaper to prevent anything from breaking.
3. Clean Glass With Newspaper
This is a cheap way to clean windows and mirrors without blowing through your fancy paper towels.
4. Dry Off Your Wet Shoes
If your shoes get wet, take them off! Stuff them with newspaper to dry them out. This will help prevent yucky smells from forming.
5. Fill Hamster Pet Cages
Forget spending money on a bag of wood chips from the pet store. Run your old newspapers through a shredder and use the scraps to fill the bottoms of hamster cages and more.
6. Ripen Peaches
Have a box full of hard peaches? Wrap them individually in newspaper and place them back in the box. Check the peaches daily to see if they are softening. This should take only a few days.
7. Start A Roaring Fire
Newspaper works as great kindling. Keep some close (but not too close) to your wood burning stove for those cold winter nights.
8. Summer Time Boot Shapers
During the warm months when our warm boots never leave the closet, they may lose their shape or get smashed by other shoes. Pack crumpled up newspaper inside of your boots to help them hold their shape until you’re ready to wear them next fall.
9. Icy Windshield Eliminators
If you think your windshield is going to be frosty in the morning, cover it with newspaper the night before. This will prevent moisture from accumulating and freezing on the glass.
10. Recycled Containers
You can get creative and make baskets out of your unused newspaper. They are surprisingly sturdy, great for book shelves, and even better as gifts! This is one of my favorite ideas on how to reuse old newspapers!
11. Zero-Cost Seed Starter Pots
Starting seeds indoors is a great way to ensure the success of your plant. But where do you find room in the kitchen for all those starter pots? Use old newspaper to create small, disposable cones that fit nicely onto a cookie sheet. Once your transfer your sprouts to their permanent home, toss the used up newspaper into your compost pile. 12. School Book Covers
Take care of expensive text books by covering them with old newspaper. Even better, use the cartoon section for a bit of comic relief during stressful or dull classes.
13. Newspaper Beads
Cut out long triangular strips of newspaper, roll them up, and glue the ends. You can create garlands, necklaces, and earrings for mother’s day!
