As summer comes to an end and cool weather settles in, we have 5 cozy ways to bring a little warmth to your home. All five projects can be done with ONE single sweater. So pull out a sweater you don’t wear anymore or pick one up at the thrift store. We’re going to make a pillow cover, a door draft stopper, coffee cuffs, a candle sleeve, and hand warmers.
These tutorials are brought to you by hometalk.com and we just loved their ideas so we’re sharing them here.
Project ONE – Sweater Pillow
1. Let’s begin with the pillow cover! Start be laying your sweater out flat on the table.
2. You’ll need a pillow to cover. Ikea sells them for $2 or you can snag that at the second hand store as well when you pick up your sweater.
3. The first think you’ll do is flip the sweater inside out. Using a hot glue gun, glue the bottom of your sweater together. This is your first “seam”.
4. Let the glue cool completely. Then flip the sweater right side out.
5. Lay your sweater over the pillow to determine where to cut the sweater so it can completely encase the pillow. Then cut your sweater.
6. To create a removable cover, glue a strip of Velcro to the open side of the sweater – on the outside of the case. That way when you close the case, it will become an invisible “seam”.
Project TWO – Door Draft Stopper
1. For the door draft stopper you will need two tube socks and rice.
2. Using a funnel, fill the socks with rice.
3. Glue the open ends of the tube socks together. Flip the end of one sock, line the sock with hot glue, then fold the end of the glued sock over the other sock.
4. You’ll be covering the tube socks with one of the remaining sweater sleeves. Cut off the sleeve and some of the chest – as shown in the photo below.
5. Flip the sleeve inside out. Using your hot glue gun, glue one end of the sleeve shut to enclose the tube shape.
6. Place the rice-filled tube socks into the sweater sleeve. Glue the open end of the sweater tube together.
Part THREE – Coffee Cuffs
1. Take your remaining sweater sleeve and cut off the sleeve cuff. Then cut again – a second coffee cuff.
2. Slip the sleeve cuff and second cuff onto coffee mugs. Cut a vertical slit in the coffee cuff to fit over the handle of your mug.
3. The sweater used in this tutorial had buttons on it so the blogger glued them onto their coffee cuff for embellishment.
Part FOUR – Candle Sleeve
1. For this you’ll need the remaining piece of your sweaters’ sleeve and a candle. Measure the height of your candle and cut enough of the remaining sleeve to cover your candle.
2. Again, if your sweater has buttons you can add them to your candle sleeve.
Part FIVE – Hand Warmers
1. Cut two palm-sized rectangles from the remaining pieces of your sweater.
2. With each rectangular piece, you’ll make one hand warmer.
3. Using your hot glue gun, glue two sides of the rectangle and fold together, creating a pocket.
4. Fill each pocket with rice.
5. Glue the open end of the pocket together.
